Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said he would like to follow the example of founder of modern Turkey Ataturk in the national re-unification and is grateful to Turkey for electricity exports during the recent crisis in Georgia.

"The activity of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in the unification and revitalization of Turkey and the establishment of a Turkish democratic state is an example for me to follow in the unification of Georgia," he said after Tuesday negotiations with Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.

"Bilateral cooperation has never been so successful before. Our relations have become truly friendly. Georgia will never forget the energy sabotage of this January when power and gas lines were disconnected, and Turkey enlarged
electricity exports to Georgia. The decision was made without hours without any bureaucracy," he said.

Georgia and Turkey "are planning the construction of a new power line, which will make possible an unlimited exchange of electric power," Saakashvili said.

He described as historic the decision of Turkey and Georgia to do away with visa formalities starting from February 10. "Turkey cancelled visa formalities for Georgia on the days when one of our neighbors [Russia] stopped issuing visas to
Georgian citizens. This is very symbolic, the two events happened together although this was accidental," he said.

"Georgia and Turkey are considering a free trade regime for a number of commodities," he said.
