The Guide
Steve Rose
Between its rich artistic traditions and its manifold geopolitical concerns, Turkey continues to make strides as a film-making nation, even if it’s only the tip of the iceberg we see here (and there’s plenty of dross at the bottom). At the very top would be Nuri Bilge Ceylan, whose latest, crime story Once Upon A Time In Anatolia (pictured), won big at this year’s Cannes. Other names to watch include Dervis Zaim, whose Shadows And Faces revisits Cypriot tensions, Muzaffer Ozdemir (former star of Ceylan’s Distant), and Tayfun Pirselimoglu, all of whom are in attendance. The self-explanatory Being Italian With Signora Enrica, meanwhile, is led by Claudia Cardinale.
