The informal apology extended by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to his Turkish counterpart in April 2013 regarding the Mavi Marmara incident tends to create the erroneous impression that Turkish-Israeli relations are about to return (or are in the process of returning) to the point that they were before Israeli commandos stormed the abovementioned Turkish ves sel in the early hours of June 1st , 2010. According to this line of thought the rapprochement between the two states is a “done deal” 1 that is already rec onfiguring regional geopolitics.
* Co-ordinator of the Programme ‘Geopolitics of Energy’ at ELIAMEP, analyses the feasibility of the Turkish-Israeli rapprochement and explores its impact on the geopolitics of the Eastern Mediterranean.
