The latest Research Paper by the NDC Research Division assesses the threats that homegrown terrorism and returning foreign fighters pose to NATO member nations, and how the Alliance can contribute to efforts to reduce these dangers.
Though traditional counterterrorism methods remain important, a comprehensive strategy must incorporate innovative approaches that draw on multiple disciplines. This paper explores the ways in which the Alliance can contribute to the rising field of “counter violent extremism” as part of the broader effort to reduce the threat of a terrorist attack within Alliance territory.
* Jacqueline Page is a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy candidate at the Fletcher Scholl-Tufts University. She wrote this paper in her capacity as a NATO Defense College (NDC) Fletcher Fellow under the mentorship of Brooke Smith-Windsor, PhD.
